The current Mercury Monterey It fills the gap in the Mercury lineup left after the cancellation of the Mercury Villager in 2002. Despite Mercury being a semi-luxury brand, the Monterey is a luxury minivan, whereas the Villager wasn't. Due to poor sales 2007 will be the last year for the Mercury Monterey and Ford Freestar at this time it is unclear what will replace the Monterey and Freestar .

The Mercury Monterey has a 201 hp 4.2 L V6 that as of 2007 has the most torque in the minivan class. It comes in just 1 trim level: Luxury. Unique features of the Monterey include available heated/cooled front seats, power sliding doors, a DVD player, a stowable and tailgating 3rd row seat.
