The Lamborghini Gallardo is the Italian supercar maker Lamborghini's "entry-level" car, sitting beneath the Murciélago. It is also the first car to feature the new Lamborghini V10 engine - only the third engine designed by the firm. 3,000 Gallardos were built in just two years, making it the company's most-produced model to date. The second-place Diablo took a decade to sell 2,903 examples.

The name Gallardo is taken from a famous breed of Canadian fighting bull. Nearly all of Lamborghini's cars are named after bulls. The Spanish word gallardo translates into "gallant," and from Italian into "striking".

The Gallardo was designed by Belgian Luc Donckerwolke, who now works for Fiat.

The Audi R8 sports car, launched in early 2007, is based heavily on the Gallardo, but uses a V8 in place of the Gallardo's V10 to avoid competing directly with the Gallardo. Production on the Gallardo ended in late 2013 and was replaced by the Lamborghini Huracán.

Recent Changes[]

  • At the end of its production run, Lamborghini produced special editions of the Gallardo featuring parts from its Gallardo Super Trofeo race cars. These editions were based on all the basic variants of the Gallardo and the cars receiving such modifications were given the Edizione Technica designation in addition to their names. Changes to the Gallardo LP 560-4 and the LP 550-2 includes revised front fascias with triangular and trapezoidal forms with diagonal elements in body color and black, larger air intakes ahead of the front wheels, new 19-inch "Apollo polished" alloy wheels in matte black with spokes in polished silver, redesigned rear end with a wider surface area, optional Style Package (high-gloss black paintwork on the underside of the front spoiler, front and rear grilles and the transverse element of the rear trim).
  • At the 2011 LA Auto Show, Lamborghini unveiled the rear-wheel drive Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder, a convertible version of the Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni. The car has a V10 engine that produces 550 horsepower. Both a six-speed manual and six-speed e-gear transmission will also be offered.[1][2]
  • Though not affiliated with the 2010 LA Auto Show, pictures of a Spyder version of the LP 570-4 Superleggera started appearing on the internet. Supposedly, it will be called the LP 570-4 Spyder "Performante" and will weigh 3275 lb (1485 kg), a 143 lb (65 kg) drop from its predecessor.[3] UPDATE: Lamborghini responded to the leak by removing the embargo on the Performante, now officially confirmed as its name. The 40% weight saving is due to the the use of carbon fiber components in place of numerous parts such as the panel covering the soft-top, engine and transmission, rear spoiler, diffuser, mirror casings, center tunnel, door panels and the sport seats' shell. The standard gearbox is the automated e-gear six-speed transmission but a six-speed manual is also offered at no additional cost. The launch to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 3.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 324 km/h (201 mph).[4]
  • For 2011, Lamborghini teamed up with Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain to create a limited edition road legal homage to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo racing cars. Built on the LP570-4 Supperleggera, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition features a black paintwork, the racing model's Countach-sized rear-wing and unique engine cover, Skorpius alloy wheels with yellow-painted brake calipers and carbon-ceramic discs, carbon-fiber diffuser and mirror casings and a black Alcantara interior with yellow accents and visible carbon-fiber. [5]
  • The 2010 Geneva Motor Show became the site for the unveiling of an updated version of the super light Gallardo, called the LP 570-4 Superleggera. This time around, the car is based on the LP560-4 albeit keeping the original's formula of stripping 70 kg (154 lb) (via the use of carbon fibre) and bumping the power slightly. Speaking of which, the 5.2 litre V10 now produces 570 hp, hence the tag, rocketing the car to 60 mph in a Murci SV nipping 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). Still, fuel consumption and C02 emissions have been cut by 20.5% when compared to the previous car. Power is routed to all four wheels via a standard 6-speed e-gear but a no-cost upgrade to the 6-speed manual is available as an option. [6]
  • [7]Limited to 250 units, the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni was named after Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni and to his request, unlike the contemporary line-up, the Balboni is rear wheel drive, reducing the curb weight by 30 kg (66 lb) to 1,470 kg (3,241 lb). The engine is rated at 550 PS (405 kW; 542 hp). Other features include re-calibrated optional E-gear transmission, redeveloped 45% limited-slip differential, full leather black upholstery with white color strips, Polar white center console, a stripe down the center of the car, and a badge below the left side window bears the signature of Valentino Balboni and the production number of the car. On right-hand drive cars, the badge is located at the bottom of the right-hand-drive rear window. A special one-off Balboni was created by the Singapore distributor of Lamborghini (Eurosport) which had Superleggera seats and a full Reiter Engineering Super Trofeo Strada body derived directly from the Super Trofeo series cars. This one-off Balboni was viewed as the predecessor to the Singapore Edition limited run LP550-2 (see below) which had a stripped out Superleggera interior, Superleggera side skirts, rear deck, rear diffuser and front bumper (sans Superleggera rear wing) but which critically was a 2wd car which catered to the enthusiast driver. This special Balboni was exported from Singapore to Indonesia in 2015. Lamborghini claims the LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni can reach a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph) and reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds
  • For 2008, the Gallardo will include an onboard computer, heated mirrors, and USB connection as standard, with new options such as iPod connection, Q-citura leather stitching as seen in the limited edition Nera and a beige soft-top available for the Spyder model. Finally, Lamborghini is offering an unlimited mileage three-year warranty for the model.
  • For 2009, The Gallardo receives a mid-cycle renovation in the form of the Gallardo LP560-4. Besides the cosmetic changes, which mirror the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, the new car is refitted with a 5.2 litre V10 churning out (as the name declares) 560 PS/552 hp while shedding 44 lbs. [8]
  • A few months after the release of the LP560-4, Lamborghini has unleashed the topless raging bull that is the Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder intime for the 2008 LA Auto Show. Specs are the same as the coupe's but the folding canvas roof simply turns the sexiness through the roof. [9][10][11]
  • For the 2008 model year, the Gallardo will receive a slight facelift with a new front air dam, larger air intakes, dual squared off exhausts (similar to the Murciélago LP640) and new vents behind the front wheel. The Gallardo will also receive new rear suspension as well as a few other, unspecified components from the Audi R8[8]. To the disappointment of some Lamborghini fans, the Gallardo does not have the "scissor doors"[12] as found on the Countach, Diablo, and Murcielago models, though aftermarket companies such as Hamann Motorsport offer such conversions, as well as increases to the car's base horsepower [13].

Engine and Transmission[]

Lamborghini-Gallardo 2003 engine

The Gallardo uses a V10 engine based on Audi's old straight-5 design. The engine was split again to become the straight-5 engine found in the new Volkswagen Jetta. The 5.0 L engine (basically the same engine featured in Audi's S6 and S8 models) is a current Audi 4.2 L V8 (featured in Audi's S4, A6, A8, and Q7 models) with two extra cylinders added and a slightly smaller bore diameter.

The Gallardo offers two choices of transmissions, a conventional six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically controlled auto-clutch manual, or, as Lamborghini abbreviates it to, "E-gear". The latter allows the driver to make shifts much faster than an automatic transmission would, with the control that a manual offers. The driver shifts up and down via paddles behind the steering wheel, and does not need to manually actuate the clutch.

Main Competitors[]

The early Gallardo was designed as a competitor to Ferrari's 360 Modena, competed with its replacement, the F430 for the better part of the 2000s and now competes with the 458 Italia. The car is named after a famous breed of fighting bull and is pronounced roughly "gah-yar-do". Gallardo is also Spanish for the word gallant. Although performance is lower than the Murcielago, it is still very high, and the Gallardo has much better rearward visibility and, according to reviewers, is more maneuverable as well as more tractable in low-speed traffic, making the Gallardo a much more practical car to drive. It is also much more practical to use in bad weather than many other supercars, thanks to rear-biased all-wheel drive. Although corporate owner Audi is renowned for its extremely good Quattro AWD system, Lamborghini uses a system of its own.

Unique Attributes[]

The Gallardo is Lamborghini's best selling car in the history. Aslo one of the best less expensive supercars in the world.

Criticisms[]

Jeremy Clarkson praised the early Gallardo as good looking and easy to drive. He also commented on the LP560-4 version, saying that It's easier to drive than the Porsche 911 GT2.

Autocar UK likes the V10 engine note, color options and the dramatic styling. They also said that the LP570-4 Superleggera has tons of grip but is not as fun to drive as the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, which is the only Gallardo that had rear wheel drive instead of the standard four wheel drive system.

Generations[]

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2[]

At the end of its production run, Lamborghini produced special editions of the Gallardo featuring parts from its Gallardo Super Trofeo race cars.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Edizione Tecnica (2012-2013)[]

The LP 570-4 Edizione Tecnica was based on the LP 570-4 Superleggera and the LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, with a fixed rear wing, carbon-ceramic brakes, roof arch and front air intakes painted in contrasting color schemes (Nero Nemesis (matt black) body with Arancio Argos (orange) pillars and front air intakes, Bianco Canopus (matt white) body with Arancio Argos pillars and front air intakes, and Arancio Argos body with Nero Nemesis pillars and front air intakes).

Second generation (2010-2013)[]

Lamborghini-Gallardo LP560-4 2009 1280x960 wallpaper 02

The seconneration of Gallardo is called Gallardo LP560-4. Lamborghini made some improvements on performance. The exterior has been restyled into a more Audi like form. The new Audi engine shares with the Audi R8. The new Gallardo features E gear.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is the successor of the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. Approximately 7100 Gallardo models have left the Sant'Agata Bolognese production plant since its launch in 2003. "The LP560-4 will consolidate this success story," states Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "It will outclass its predecessor in every aspect; its dynamics are distinctly breathtaking and its design sets new standards. With the introduction of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, we will consistently continue Lamborghini's growth strategy".

The powerful heart of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is the new 5.2 litre V10 engine with an output of 560 PS (412 kW) at 8000 rpm. The increase of 40 PS compared with that of the previous Gallardo, and the approximate 20 kilogram reduction in weight, improves the power weight ratio to 2.5 kilograms per PS (hp) and thus enhances performance. The LP560-4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, its speed at 11.8 seconds is 200 km/h and its top speed lies at 325 km/h. At the same time the new, highly efficient engine enthrals its driver with its direct fuel injection system - "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata". Despite its clearly increased power, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by a staggering 18 per cent.

The new headlights have a characteristic 'daytime' running light integrated beneath the Bi-Xenon lamps: 15 diodes (LED) have been positioned in a Y structure. The same motif appears again in the rear tail-lights. The stop and brake lights have been inspired by the Miura Concept, the Murciélago LP640 and the Reventón and display the Y form three times over.

The completely redesigned rear gives the definition "powerful elegance" a new meaning: rear lights, air cooling vents, bumper and diffuser are arranged in precise positions on the car's exterior, which make the LP560-4 appear extremely wide and bonded to the road surface. In addition, the streamlined covers left and right of the engine hood accentuate the powerful shoulders and lengthened, stretched lines of the new Gallardo.

A Lamborghini is and always will be a highly efficient athlete. Its extreme sensuality is based upon precision, performance and on spontaneous action. A Lamborghini's elegance is that of stark, purist strength. This DNA of the Lamborghini brand is being continuously developed by the Centro Stile in every new car. Thus the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 displays the precise lines and clean surface edges in its distinctly minimalist design. Ornaments or embellishments of any form are alien to it.

Evolution of form systematically follows the demands of function: the newly designed front of the LP 560-4 squats deeply to the ground which contributes to its aerodynamic efficiency. The enlarged and clearly accentuated cooling intakes meet the demands of augmented engine power thus increasing the air circulation vital to a vehicle as powerful as this. The spoiler, positioned low between the air intakes, improves aerodynamic equilibrium at high speeds.

The rear diffuser has been newly designed, is more efficient with respect to its predecessor and, together with the smooth underbody, contributes to the excellent steering stability even at extremely high speeds. In sum, the aerodynamic efficiency with regard to output compared to that of its predecessor has been increased by 31 %. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 takes fast curves even more supremely.

The designers in Sant'Agata Bolognese have excelled themselves with the clear-cut, pure, stark lines of the Gallardo LP 560-4. They also have demonstrated distinct attention to detail; the elaborate aluminium cap for petrol and motor oil are testimony to this, as is the rear camera which has been integrated in a small fin in the independent rear spoiler as well as the finely-crafted grille in the exhaust pipes.

Weight is undesirable in a sports car and a lightweight model encourages the dynamics of such a vehicle. Aluminium is much lighter than sheet steel and this is why the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is produced with a body in a much lighter but nevertheless more stiff structure: the two-seater car measures 4.34 metres in length, 1.90 metres in width and a mere 1.16 metres in height. It weighs in dry at 1410 kilograms - which is, effectively, 20 kilograms less that that of the previous Gallardo.

The construction of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 utilises what is known as a 'spaceframe construction method'. Integrally moulded node elements and extruded parts create its frame, and sheet metal plates made out of aluminium have been neatly and securely integrated to form the body. The body is not only extremely light but also torsionally stiff and displays the highest safety characteristics. Thus the basis for the extraordinary handling characteristics of the LP560-4 is formed.

Despite its low exterior height, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 welcomes its passengers with a spacious interior. The sports seats are covered with either fine leather or Alcantara® (upon request) and provide secure adherence and support. The position of the seats is very low, typical for sportscars. There is space behind the seats for luggage which complements the 110 litre front trunk.

The wide middle console is one of the elements which characterizes the impression of sporty dynamism in the interior. It accommodates the standard Lamborghini multimedia system as well as the air conditioning which can be regulated on both the driver's and passenger's sides. Between both of these elements lies a newly designed module consisting of classically elegant flip switches. Seven round instruments in the cockpit with a new graphic provide the driver with essential engine data and a multifunctional display between the speedometer and revolution counter provides the driver with important information.

The body of the car also demonstrates extremely high levels of 'passive security'. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 fulfils the not yet obligatory European directives regarding the protection of pedestrians. Furthermore, the geometry of the entire front of the car has been optimised with the addition of a special combination of materials behind the front bumper which serve to absorb any impact energy.

The Miura and the other models of the 60s were already characterized by the excellent quality of workmanship which lay far and above the general standards of that time. Lamborghini has continued this tradition and even today delivers automobiles of the highest standards. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 indulges with the highest quality, aesthetically pleasing materials. With regard to the leather interior, an array of different colours and stitching (also in contrasting colours) are available. As an optional, Lamborghini can deliver the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 with a further choice of leather and Alcantara® interiors as well as Carbon Fibre Packages. Here, elements such as the air-conditioning surrounds, the control panel, the handbrake handle and the gear-stick surrounds are available in carbon fibre.

Furthermore, the individualisation program, Ad Personam, enables the customer to create any combination of colour and trim, thus creating a highly personalised vehicle. After all, the new Lamborghini should perfectly reflect the owner's lifestyle.

The engine of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is a completely new development. All that remains of the original V10 is the number of cylinders which, in this performance category, create a perfect and unique synthesis of torque, force of movement, sporty nimbleness, compact size and low weight.

The engine has a 5204 cm3 volumetric displacement which, with 8.000 rpm creates the extreme 560 PS (412 kW). This results in the excellent performance per litre of 107.6 PS/lt. At maximum torque output, the engine yields 540 Newtonmeter at 6.500 rpm. The ample torque curve guarantees outstanding thrust from every engine speed. With an acceleration of 3.7 seconds from 0-100 km/h and a maximum speed of 325 km/h, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 shoots into the orbit of the most extreme and powerful sports cars.

Despite the clearly improved driving performance of this super sports car, Sant'Agata's engineers were nevertheless able to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2emissions by 18 per cent. Measured by engine power and performance, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 e-gear's average fuel consumption of 13.7 litres per 100 kilometers, is extremely low.

The engine in this new model lies lengthways in front of the rear axle - hence the model description Longitudinale Posteriore. The concept of the mid - rear engine is unbeatable in sports car production, with the centre of gravity being displaced next to the vertical axis, thus creating the car's exceptional dynamics. Furthermore, it creates the basis for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4's perfect weight distribution with 43 per cent on the front axle and 57 per cent on the rear. In combination with the permanent four-wheel drive transmission, superior driving stability and road adherence are guaranteed in all situations.

Even the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4's predecessor was one of the world's best super sports cars with regard to handling, precision and driving stability. However, the latest model provides an even more intense driving experience: the new suspension improves the car's handling, its driving comfort and its directional stability at high speeds.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4's space frame is uncompromisingly high tech. Its technical production was conceived from motor sport technologies. The double wishbones made out of aluminium with newly designed kinematics, while the springs and shock absorbers are tightly adjusted for grip.

The rear axle now has an additional track rod which further improves the excellent control of this super sports vehicle. Newly developed elements are the rubber-metal bearings - authentic high-tech parts - which clearly improve the special Lamborghini driving dynamics with well-chosen material combinations and cleverly defined assembly.

With the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Lamborghini provides its customers with a generous and sporty standard equipment package. Direct from the production line, a customer will find included in his vehicle passenger and lateral air-bags; a two-zone air-conditioning system with sun regulation; The Lamborghini Multimedia System including an USB connector; and sports seats with an electronically operated backrest. In addition to this, the interior trim includes fine leather and Bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running light. The car is supplied with new Apollo wheels as standard.

A large variety of options increases the interior comfort of the vehicle, including a navigation system and a module for TV reception, a hands-free Bluetooth® phone set, an anti-theft device and a rearview camera. A further option is the lifting system control of the front of the vehicle which, at the touch of a button, is raised to enable driving over obstacles. The new polished cross wheel rims 'Cordelia' or the black Y-rims 'Callisto' complete the options range. Finally, the engine hood made from glass creates a showcase for the heart of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4..

The possibilities and different combinations available in the Individualisation Program Ad Personam are almost inexhaustible. Behind this program stands the philosophy that a super sports car of this nature should, after all, reflect the personality of its owner by enabling him to completely indulge his expectations and wishes. As a consequence, extreme exclusivity is the trademark of Lamborghini's individualisation program. "Think the Impossible" states the motto. Ad Personam offers a host of options in order that a customer may give the car an imprint of his own style with respect to the interior trim and exterior. A new highlight in the program are the following three exclusive matt colours: Nero Nemesis (matt black), Bianco Canopus (matt white), Marrone Apus (matt brown). The new matt colours underline the clearly defined and purist precision of the Lamborghini design.

The first Gallardo was introduced in 2003. The smaller cousin of the Lamborghini Murcielago, was designed to be a cutting edge sports car that isn't as far out of reach and easier to live with. In order to succeed engineers had to achieve high comfort standards while maintaining the savage performance expected of a Lamborghini. The result is a 4.3 meters long 2-seater raging bull capable of over 300 km/h, fulfilling the high-performance sports car pedigree for which the company is famous, while still being enjoyable to drive outside the race track, in the city or country lanes.

It was designed to preserve the attributes of previous Lamborghini cars, but also to add a sense of extreme individuality and a modern feel. The final product looks great, even when standing still the Lamborghini Gallardo feels fast and uncompromising. The interior looks modern and is of superb build quality, but you can recognize some Audi bits here and there. Unfortunately the car lacks the famous Lamborghini scissor doors, which are reserved for V12 lineage.

Variants[]

Gallardo Spyder[]
Lamborghini-Gallardo-Spyder

Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

The production spyder model of the Gallardo was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, 2006. It is considered by the company to be an entirely new model, with 512 hp (382 kW; 520 PS) and a lower-ratio six-speed transmission. The soft top is fully retractable.

Gallardo SE[]

In late 2005, the Gallardo SE (for Special Edition) was introduced. The SE is distinguished from the regular Gallardo externally by having a black-roofed two-tone color scheme as well as specially designed "Callisto" rims shod with Pirelli tires. Mechanically, the SE addresses many of the criticisms of the original Gallardo; the steering is quicker and more responsive, the transmission gear ratios have been adjusted to better suit the V10, and the E-gear now has a "thrust mode" to optimize acceleration, and the car's power has been increased to 512 hp (382 kW; 520 PS). The SE has a higher top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 250 units of the Gallardo SE will be produced. All the mechanical upgrades of the SE, however, will be included in all Gallardos after 2006 (excluding the two-tone bodywork).

The Gallardo SE comes with a two-tone interior. All piping and stitching on the ultra-quality leather are executed in the same color as the bodywork of the car. The mid sections of the seats are finished in color-coded upholstery and even the black floormats have a color coded borders.

A rear-view camera is also standard issue on the Gallardo SE, as is a multimedia system and a navigation system. The sport suspension and an exclusive cover also came with the car but there are still several other options available, like the E-gear, which featured a 'thrust' mode to offer even more impressive acceleration by improving the gearchange through the different gears.

This "thrust" mode actually automatically revs the car to 5000 rpm, drops the clutch engaging all four wheels in a controlled burnout, and ensures the car performs maximum acceleration. This "launch" only requires the driver to engage the "thrust" mode and step on the gas pedal, similar to the launch technology in Formula 1 race cars.

Gallardo “Superleggera”[]
Main article: Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

A version of the Gallardo, dubbed the Superleggera (super light), was launched at the 2007 Geneva Auto Show supposedly in preparation for the next Ferrari 430 Scuderia.[citation needed] The Superleggera paid tribute to the first Lamborghini production model, the famous 350GT, which was designed and built by the Carrozzeria Touring in Milan, a coachbuilding company that recently restarted its activities. The Lamborghini Gallardo doesn't have a Superleggera style constructed body, only the name.

The Lamborghini Gallardo doesn't have a Superleggera style constructed body, only the name.[10] The engine's improved intake, exhaust and ECU added 10 PS (7 kW; 10 hp) for a total of 530 PS (390 kW; 523 hp). The 6-speed e-gear transmission, usually a US$ 10,000 option, now comes as a standard. A 6-speed manual gearbox was still offered as a no cost option. The Superleggera is lighter than the base Gallardo by 100 kg (220 lb) (70 kg (150 lb) in US model) from 1,430 kg (3,200 lb) via the use of carbon fibre panels for the rear diffuser, undertray, the rearview-mirror housings, the interior door panels, the central tunnel, engine cover; titanium wheel nuts, carbon fibre sports seats with Alcantara. Colour choices include Midas Yellow, Borealis Orange, Telesto Gray and Noctis Black.

During its production life, 172 were produced, with 10 in white, 34 in grey, 37 in black, 45 in yellow and 46 in orange.

Gallardo Nera[]

The Gallardo Nera (Special Edition) was introduced at Paris Motor Show. The Nera has a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 185 units of the Gallardo Nera were be produced and 60 are for the American market.[14]

Worldwide[]

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is one of the first Lamborghinis sold in Jakarta along with the Murcielago LP640.

Police car/s[]

In December 2004, several Gallardos were donated by Lamborghini to the Italian police in honor of the force's 152nd anniversary. The Gallardo Police Cars are used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale) during emergencies and alarm situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, also under the powers of the special safety operative which is already being employed along that tract of highway and above all, for the transport of body organs destined to transplants.

Yellow Gallardos have been "temporary" police cars for the Metropolitan Police in London, one in 2005 and one in 2006, for specific publicity events. The 2006 vehicle was seen at the start of the 2006 Gumball Rally. Both vehicles were loaned by Lamborghini London and were fitted with yellow and blue battenburg livery, police logos and a small blue lightbar.

In October 2008, Lamborghini followed up their 2004 donation of Gallardos to the Italian Polizia by donating a 2009 Gallardo LP560-4 decked out in Polizia livery and gadgets any police force would envy.[15]

Design quirks and oddities[]

  • Bam Margera owns a purple Gallardo, which he cut a sunroof out of with the help of Billy Idol, which caused a large controvesy with Lamborghini enthusiasts. The clutch was destroyed by a crewmember on the 2006 Gumball Rally, which Margera was participating in. This amounted to an estimated US$15,000 worth of damage. In revenge, Margera threw paint and smashed the glass on the crewmember's Peugeot 306.[16]
  • The Gallardo Spyder was road tested on the British TV show Top Gear where presenter Jeremy Clarkson described it as his new favourite supercar. According to the Top Gear magazine, Clarkson has ordered a Gallardo Spyder to replace his unreliable Ford GT. This was later confirmed in the Februrary 18, 2007 episode.
  • In 2004, a stock yellow Gallardo coupe was piloted to 200 mph on a highway as part of the Super Speeders "1 Lap of NYC" street/drag racing video, exceeding the manufacturer's top speed estimate.
  • One of the most highly modified Gallardo's (aesthetically) is the IMSA Gallardo created by German designer Holger Mohr. Featured on the January/February 2007 cover of Modified Luxury & Exotics magazine the widebody kit is made up of 18-pieces. A high-performance power package is in the works.[9]
  • Currently, many young people are mislead to believe that the Gallardo is more powerful than the Murcielago. This however is untrue and is actually the fault of many racing games that give the Gallardo a higher top speed and acceleration level when compared to the Murcielago.
  • Rapper Akon has mentioned this car, in his song "Smack That" featuring Eminem. Akon himself owns a white Gallardo and white Murcielago, as seen on MTV Cribs.
  • A Gallardo appears in the film Mission Impossible III.
  • In The Simpsons (episode 8, season 17) Mr. Burns ordered Homer to pick up his new car from Italy, it looked exactly as a Gallardo, but it was called Lamborgotti Fasterossa
  • In 2004, the Lamborghini Gallardo has been named the Most Beautiful Car in the World under Sports Supercar.
  • Tiff Needell tested the LP560-4 Gallardo on ice in a British automotive show, Fifth Gear.
  • Famous R&B singer Chris Brown owns a grey Gallardo.
  • Timbaland's son got a Gallardo with custom vinyls for his sweet sixteen birthday as seen on MTV My Super Sweet Sixteen.
  • Ray J owns a black Gallardo with tinted rear lights.
  • Joel Madden owns a yellow Gallardo with custom yellow rims.
