Named after the British racing driver of the same name, the SLR Stirling Moss is a limited edition variant of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren unveiled at the 2009 North American Auto Show, which uses a speedster styling that does not include a roof or a windscreen. The car is designed by Korean designer Yoon Il-hun and is inspired by the 300 SLR race car. The interior was designed by Dutch designer Sarkis Benliyan. The SLR Stirling Moss was to be the last series of the McLaren SLR built under the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, until McLaren announced their own final Edition of the SLR in late 2010.

Unique Attributes[]
Even beyond the obvious lack of a roof and windshield, the rest of the Stirling Moss edition's carbon-fiber exterior is radically different from that of other SLRs, beginning with a freshly styled front fascia. Gone are the quad headlights (removed in favor of stacked clusters), as well as the single-slat grille on both sides of the three-pointed star, giving the front a much smoother style. The lower portion of the front now peaks at the center and the larger intake resembles that of the Lamborghini Gallardo. Two large hood vents are added near the cowl along with a smaller vent in the front on the passenger side.
The Moss edition features a deep body crease that begins behind the front wheel and extends almost to the back of the door. Dual exhaust outlets now find their exit in the middle of the front quarter panel, rather than down at the rocker, as on conventional SLRs. Smaller and sleeker taillights give the rear a modern look, while the deck sports two aero humps topped with roll hoops. The rear diffuser is considerably larger than the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren or Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster. There’s a retractable air brake as on the other SLR models, but the Stirling Moss’s air brake differs in that it can be operated manually.
Interior[]
The interior is reduced to what Mercedes-Benz calls the “bare essentials,” although it is still coated in high-end materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, and leather. An aluminum plate around the shift lever will carry the engraved signature of Stirling Moss as a tribute to the driver. The Stirling Moss uses a pair of sporty bucket seats. In front of the driver, Mercedes-Benz installed an instrument panel with individual clusters for speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and coolant temperature.

First Generation: (2009)[]
When Mercedes-Benz introduced the 300 SLR, it needed victories to get more media attention. Stirling Moss provided that when he won the 1955 Mille Miglia driving that race car for the German carmaker. Later that year, he repeated the performance at the Targa Florio race. Sir Stirling Moss was regarded as “the greatest racing driver that never won a Formula 1 championship.” But his victories remained untamed by any shadow of a doubt as being one of the greatest drivers of all times. Mercedes-Benz created a unique roadster: the McLaren SLR Stirling Moss, in 2009. Sir Moss died eleven years later in 2020.
After introducing the SLR as a coupe and as a roadster, the sky was the limit, and Mercedes-Benz realized what to do with the open-top convertible. It simply cut the A-pillars, the windshield and created a legendary roadster for two, with two tall roll-bars behind the seats. To protect the occupants from wind, Mercedes-Benz installed two small windscreens in front of the cockpit. Moreover, if the driver drove alone, the other seat could have been closed with a lid.
