Recent Changes

• On December 07, 2009, Renault unveiled the entry-level Twingo R1 and R2 Rally Cars. imed at budget conscious buyers, the Twingo R1 and R2 come in the form of a motorsport kit featuring all the required parts aside from tires. The Twingo RenaultSport R1, which can participate in all regional, national and international rallies, is fitted with some essential safety equipment such as a welded roll cage. Its 133 hp 1.6-liter engine and gearbox remain unchanged save for an ECU setting giving torque at lower engine speeds will be homologated to improve mid-range performance. The Twingo RenaultSport R2 builds on that with a package that adds an array of performance upgrades including a more powerful 1.6-liter unit with 160 hp at 7,200 rpm and a peak torque of 160 Nm at 5,500rpm. The four-cylinder unit is coupled to a five-speed 'dog' sequential gearbox and steering column mounted shift lever while there's also a ZF limited slip differential. In addition, the Twingo R2 is fitted with bump- and rebound-adjustable shock absorbers, motorsport brake pads and one-piece aluminium wheel rims that are available in 6.5x16" (tarmac) and 6x15" (gravel) sizes and can be fitted with 195/50 R 16 (tarmac) or 195/65 R 15 (gravel) tires. Inside, the R2 features the same dashboard and central console as on the road car, but comes with two Sabelt Renaultsport seats and harnesses as well as an LED instrumental panel that displays all the necessary information. Renault said that both kits go on sale in early April, 2010, with the R2 package (not including the price of the car) starting at €27,990 without tax. The French automaker did not release pricing for the basic R1 kit.

• On January 10, 2010, Renault unveiled the Twingo Gordini Renaultsport at the Atelier Renault on the Champs-Elysées, in Paris. The hot hatch marks the revival of the Gordini name and give the Twingo a lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers as well as 17-inch alloy wheels with Malta blue inner rims. Other touches include a French blue and white racing stripe livery, a choice of two paint colours, Malta Blue or Pearlescent Black metallic, blue and black Gordini-embossed leather seats, blue leather door panel inserts, blue gearlever gaiter and Gordini-badged gearlever knob, a blue rev counter with white surround, automatic climate control, cruise control, a radio/ CD/ MP3 player and a fully disconnectable ESP system. [1]

• Still fresh out of the box, the 2008 Twingo receives a special "Nokia Edition". Available in pearl black or opaque white and with a special Nokia tech-themed central pillar decoration, the car features a standard an MP3 compatible 140W radio-cd with USB, jack and iPod inputs as well as a hands-free Bluetoothed Nokia 6110 cell-phone and a GPS navigation system with visual and voice guidance. It will be available with a 75 hp 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 65 hp 1.5 dCi diesel engine. The car will only be on sale in France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Belgium and Holland. Prices will begin at €12,950 ($18,400) for the petrol and €14,450 ($20,600) for the diesel. [2]

• At the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, Renault will be unveiling a hot hatch version of the Twingo dubbed the Twingo RS. Besides being graced with a unique and aggressive bodykit, the performance oriented car will get a new 133 hp 1.6 litre engine. [3]In 2014, Renault released the new Twingo Mk3.
