"Fiat 500" can also refer to the later Fiat Cinquecento or to the 2008 model year Fiat Nuova 500

Fiat 500 is an iconic Italian city car, first introduced in 1975. A reto version was produced in 2007 with the similar name.

With the devastation of Europe after World War 2, the public demanded an affordable economical car. Fiat responded with a small size city car (Often argued as the first city car by some) called the Fiat Nuova 500 in 1957. Nuova means 'New' in Italy. Powered by 479 cc engine, the Fiat 500 produces 13 bhp. It features a abric roof folding all the way back to the rear of the vehicle, like that of a Citroen 2CV (A popular economy French car) rather than the later roof design, which only folds half way back along the roof. It is overall 2.97 metres (9 feet 9 inches) long. The Sport version features 499.5 cc engine.

In 1960, the 'Nuova' was replaced by the 500D. The engine size was upgraded to 499 cc and the roof cannot be folded anymore. Other than that, the 500D remains the same car as it was in 1957.

Following the same year, an estate/wagon version was offered, called the 500K (Also called the Giardiniera). Engine is laid under the floor for a better cabin space and the roof stretches all the way to the back end, which creates more headroom. Over

327,000 units were made, with the later versions having a Autobianchi badge rather than the Fiat
