In October 2015, the M2 Coupe was presented to the public, the series production at the Leipzig plant started on 19 October 2015 , the delivery of the first vehicles is scheduled for April 2016. It is below the M4 settled and above the BMW M235i.

The engine, which together with the X4 M40i was presented a few days ago, based on the N55 , a turbocharged six-cylinder with 2979 cc capacity. This differs from the built-in M3 and M4 sister model S55 in that it has a turbocharger less and thus a lower output of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 500 Nm 1450-4750 min -1 developed.
You can choose between a manual six-speed gearbox and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the latter causes despite 35 kg more weight providing improved acceleration.
The consumption of over the M235i again enlarged engine is 8.5 l / 100km with the manual and 7.9 l / 100km with the optional dual clutch gearbox in the combined.
The "M double-clutch transmission " is a 7-speed dual clutch transmission with so-called "Drivelogic", which is designed according to BMW specifically for the "M high-revving engines." The system features traction-automatic gear selection, Launch Control , "Low Speed Assistance" and an "Auto Start Stop" function. It allows very fast gear changes with uninterrupted traction. Here are derived two sub-transmissions, each with its own clutch, the engine power to the rear wheels unabated continues. The control is automatically or manually via shift paddles on the steering wheel or the gear lever. As with the 'Launch Control', which allows a standing start with maximum acceleration, this means: switching at full throttle, clutchless, with continuous power transmission. The Drivelogic makes this both in the automated (D-mode) as well as in manual mode (S mode), both three shift programs to choose from - from extremely sporty to comfortable or optimized consumption.
F87 M2 CS
although it hasn't been revealed yet BMW is working on a hardcore version of the M2 it is rumoured to be called the m2 cs or m2 csl. It is speculated that the car will be unveiled in the second quarter of 2018.
